This New Moon and its accompanying aspects perfectly embodies Scorpio’s unyielding drive for emotional truth. You might have felt the pull over the past week into uncomfortable hidden depths and along shadowy paths where secrets hide and power is contested.

At these times we need to remind ourselves these shadows are not just our own, these are the residues that belong to us all; the unprocessed vestiges of trauma, shadow material and whatever else is forbidden, cast away, forgotten, rejected, unwitnessed, unfelt, hiding in the recesses and corners of our environment and being.

We see in others what we have locked away or refuse to witness in ourselves, and to acknowledge that requires meeting multidimensional parts of ourselves, our whole being, all which is rejected.

For many, it’s not safe to imagine or know ourselves in our whole nature. Perhaps it’s not even a soul contract that all go there. We are told through the various flavours of spiritual programming out there that we can be anything, but this is not strictly true, we are here to honour the Divine will’s plan for our lives, which means giving over the idea that we can be anything and everything.

Our job is to whittle down and refine what our specific task is. If we try and be things we are not, or be too much, or follow a programme, then we will ultimately either feel unfulfilled or be known back to square one to retrace skipped steps and get back in touch with our core purpose.

Scorpio doesn’t gently request our trust—instead, its formidable power demands our full attention, drawing us into the depths of our psyche for an intense, soul-level excavation. Here we are urged to confront layers within that we’ve kept hidden; the essence of our real purpose is held deep within, in the materia we refuse to entertain.

Most skirt on the surface, never diving deep, prefer to ice-skate their way through life until the ice cracks beneath them, forcing them into Pluto’s icy waters.

The sign of Scorpio is the Moon’s sign of fall, where it feels most uncomfortable. Here the Moon can feel more vulnerable, triggering our defense mechanisms and strategies of avoidance. If urges, deep hidden wounds or destructive thought patterns get stirred, and go unrestrained, here we can get drawn into the depths of despair.

If this is the case, know it’s the time of the year for it, and accept it’s a necessary part of our human journey. Having said that, remember ‘real’ feeling is the way out of these places. So allow yourself to process it through your feelings.

Given Scorpio’s emphasis on power dynamics, we may find ourselves dealing with strong-willed or challenging individuals who hold firm boundaries, high standards, or employ push-pull tactics. This is also helpful – to some extent. As these people prompt us to reconsider our casual, carefree, and sometimes ungrounded approach to life.

These encounters challenge us in lots of different ways. Sometimes we need to consider more deeply what we want to stand firm on, and sometimes we need to be more flexible, leaving our fear and control at the door. Either way, we are forced to take a more serious or intentional attitude within and with ourselves, choosing more consciously what we want or need to be, which means reflecting on our actions and decisions.

It’s not a time to drift or coast along, since people will bring us lessons in discipline, self-honesty and self-respect – the most core elements of self-love. This in turn encourages us to adopt a more grounded, in real time and purposeful way of living.

So yes, Scorpio’s relentless craving for depth and authenticity often manifests as an intense desire to maintain power and control over emotions – either our own or those of others. This emerges from a protective instinct born from a deep-seated fear of vulnerability.

Yet, the irony is that Scorpio ultimately calls for something entirely different: the release of control, the surrender of something (I refuse to use the word separateness or ego as sometimes we need more of this first!), and an openness to being fully immersed in the transformative process of an inner alchemy.

As Mars and Pluto are the traditional and modern rulers of this New Moon, their planetary activity, especially at this New Moon, is very relevant. Since there is something very significant happening at this New Moon between these two planets and not completing until April 2025, we could say that this New Moon is like an initiation or threshold for that journey.

We might now be getting used to the week long culminating Mars opposite Pluto, exact now until 4 November. However, hold onto your reflections over the past few days because this aspect is still in orb until mid January.

This Mars-Pluto opposition is notably extended, spanning from mid-October through January 2025 (but exact now). But due to Mars’ retrograde motion, it will exactly oppose Pluto three times during this period.

Exactness aside, it will still be in orb until mid-January (that means close enough to have an impact but not exact), as while typical Mars-Pluto opposition lasts around two weeks, the retrograde of Mars makes this opposition this time around a rare occurrence.

First Opposition: 3 November 2024, with Mars in Cancer opposing Pluto in Capricorn.

Second Opposition: 3 January 2025, as Mars retrogrades back into Cancer, opposing Pluto now in Aquarius.

Third Opposition: 26 April 2025, with Mars in Leo opposing Pluto in Aquarius.

What’s more significant is that all the outer planets are at or edging towards the anaretic degree, critical final degree point, which embodies the extreme of a sign, but also heightens its potential. Mars-Pluto are at this final degree point of 29 degrees, which Neptune and Uranus are also edging towards; Neptune will be there by the end of 2025.

Pluto at 29 degrees Sabian symbol, is “a woman reading tea leaves” suggesting we look beyond the material to understand hidden forces, inviting us to harness our insights as we move forward into uncharted territory. It speaks to heightened, subtle awareness, yet in times of crisis, as many are experiencing now, tapping into this level of insight can be challenging.

Interestingly, when Neptune reaches 29 degrees Pisces in 2025, represented by Sabian symbol “a prism breaking light into many colors,” once again, there is this emphasis on expanded consciousness and understanding multifaceted truths. Both symbols urge us to look beyond surface appearances and tune into a heightened sense of awareness to uncover what is hidden or complex.

This won’t be easy under a strong, prolonged Mars-Pluto, since it heightens intensity and power struggles. But if we can transform these challenges into drawing out or reconnecting with what really is core and important in our lives, we will make more contact with the subtle realms.

Mars represents action, desire, and aggression, while Pluto embodies transformation, power, and what’s hidden. This prolonged opposition can lead to conflicts, both internal and external, as deep-seated issues surface, demanding resolution. It is possible that some of these issues will often draw out underlying, hidden symptoms as this aspect tends to put pressure on the physical body; so it’s a big push to deepen our connection to our body, drive and will.

The transition of Pluto from Capricorn to Aquarius during this time adds layers to the dynamic. Pluto’s move into Aquarius on 19 November 2024, marks a shift from traditional structures (Capricorn) to progressive, collective ideals (Aquarius). This transition brings societal upheavals, technological advancements, as well as monumental shifts in ownership of power and force.

In different ways, we will all be feeling this, but if we look at the body for a minute, we can see we are being challenged to include it in our future.

Mars rules physical energy and Pluto represents intensity and pressure, so this opposition can lead to physical strain especially on muscles and joints (remember this Dragon year rules joints, tendons and ligaments). We may feel compelled to push our bodies harder. Additionally, watch out for the back, neck, shoulders and jaw where we all hold tension.

Over an extended period of time, Mars-Pluto transits, can weaken the immune system. This is because there’s a tendency to override body cues for rest. As Pluto will demand from us transformation of our relationship with stress, force and pressure, this might lead to increased vulnerability to illness if we neglect our body’s needs. It is important to cover the essentials at this time – water and nutrition.

Mars and Pluto can influence adrenal and hormonal health also, as they both relate to the body’s fight or flight responses. We need to be extra vigilant over our nervous system and not put ourselves in situations that produce excessive cortisol and adrenaline, since over time these can cause fatigue, burnout, hormonal imbalance or adrenal stress.

Certainly inflammation, flare ups, digestive imbalances also since Mars is associated with heat and Pluto with deep, hidden processes. If we have a habit of repressing our emotions, digestion in particular might be affected. Think about what you need to support any potential inflammatory issues.

Finally, Mars opposite Pluto can trigger impulsive or compulsive behaviours, which may lead to accidents or injuries. We may feel compelled to take risks, work harder, or push past our normal limits. Staying aware of this tendency and returning to balance will be extra supportive to mitigate this tendency.

When it comes to our relationships, we’re in for quite a ride also! Oppositions—especially during Scorpio season—bring every hidden shadow, unspoken desire, and untapped potential to the surface, pushing connections to transformation or breaking point.

In astrology, the opposition aspect brings us into relationship with the ‘other’. Through our relationship with others, we get to experience our own underbelly, our underlying shadow motives or feel the emotional undercurrents that they trigger. The trick is to turn our relationships from a battleground for emotional survival into a powerful space for transformation and rebirth, by seeing what we need to ‘bring in’, ‘be more of’, or ‘let go of’ (among others).

Venus joins Pallas Athena and stands in opposition to Jupiter. Venus in Sagittarius seeks expansive, heartfelt connections and Jupiter in Gemini a lightheartedness. It’s a time of exploring different options, especially in respect of our values and ideals within relationships. Venus-Pallas combines love and beauty with wisdom and strategy; creative solutions that harmonise relationships, blending emotional intelligence with strategic thinking.

Keep an open mind and heart. Allow things to flow naturally without rushing into commitments, unless or until it feels right. Since we are learning to follow ourselves more deeply, we need to adhere only to what our sense and feeling is telling us. If our alignment is more within, we will feel what is right for us. We’re learning to tune into ourselves more deeply, making choices aligned with our inner truth. Trusting our intuition helps us feel what’s right, staying grounded in our own rhythm.

Although there is always external influences that will always try to pull and push us, staying connected to our own personal strategy; keep your our own internal drum close and know its rhythm, let this guide you forward. There’s no need to overthink; instead, feel into what’s unfolding and recognise the lessons emerging along the way.
